Okay, this post doesn't really relate to weight loss (other than the fact that I feel pretty confident wearing a bathing suit now... yipee!), but it's about something that's really important to me- sun protection!!
I love the summer. Seriously. I'm a Georgia girl, so I can take the heat... and I love it. I love being able to drive with the windows down whether its 5am or 10pm. I love that when I step outside, there's a chance I could melt within 5 seconds. I love that it's ALWAYS the perfect time for a big ol' glass of sweet iced tea. I love summer.
The one thing I don't love about summer is... sun damage. Yikes! I am really fair and burn incredibly easily. I got sunburned so much growing up that I had to have a cancerous spot on my back removed a few years ago. After that, I realized that sun damage is really serious- and now I take it seriously!I wear SPF 20 on my face EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Even if it's cloudy- because friends, the sun is behind those clouds and can still damage your pretty little faces. For real.
When I'm out in the sun for a long time, I wear SPF 70 and I reapply it about every 45 minutes to an hour. I don't mess around with sunburn!
Here are some of my favorite products for summer- to beat the heat and help keep me lookin' fly: (Sorry. I'm still in LFO's "Summer Girls" mode.)
1. BeautiControl Cell Block C
This is SPF 20 sunscreen. I put it on my face every day- under my makeup if I'm not wearing makeup or just as a great moisturizer. It smells awesome and it WORKS. For real. And it's really light- it's not greasy at all, so I dig it. Won't clog my pores. I can get excited about that! You can buy it here.2. Rosebud Perfume Company's Strawberry Lip Balm
This is my all-time favorite lip balm! My lips tend to get super-dry in the killer Georgia heat, so I have to keep them moisturized. Rosebud's Strawberry Lip Balm is THE BEST. 3. Mystic Tan
Don't judge me! I'm pale. Like... you might mistake me for Casper the Ghost pale. It's not so cute - I'd rather be mistaken for Pocahontas, but it looks like that's not in the cards for me. So I'll settle for a killer summer glow. With Mystic Tan, I know I'm not damaging my skin and that instead of coming out looking like an Oompa Loompa, I come out looking like I spent a few days at the beach. This sun hat by Scala was sent to me to try. Let me start by saying that I am NOT a hat person. At all. I look ridiculous in hats (as proven by the picture above). However... I am in love with this Scala hat. Not only is that hat SUPER cute, but it has UVA/UVB protection! I spent all this past weekend at a pool (as in- got there at 8, stayed 'til 5:30. ALL day.) and I wore this hat the entire time. It was swelteringly hot, but this hat kept my head and my face cool! It protected it from the sun and I didn't get a single spot of sunburn.
My aunt liked the hat so much that she bought one for herself, and we're looking for a suave gentleman's hat by Scala for my grandad when he works in his yard. He may be 78, but he still likes to look fly. Seriously.
